Welcome to the official website for Ards Borough Youth Development
The Ards Borough Youth League started in September 2004 in response of a number of Junior football clubs requesting a competitive football league to compete in. Hammy Cairnduff, along with Bobby Murphy, Dennis Nash of the Newtownards Chronicle started the ball rolling and the initial response was encouraging.
The first league competition was for Under 13’s and consisted of 11 teams. One of these teams was a ladies team, Ards Youth Girls. Although never challenging for the League title they acquitted themselves with distinction and gained many admirers as the team got stronger and more competitive. The League finished in a tie between Holywood Boys and Bangor Swifts with Holywood Boys team winning the league paly off.
In the Knock Out Cup competition Holywood Boys again overcame Bangor Swifts in the final to complete the “Double”. Regardless of these set backs Bangor Swifts deservedly won some silverware in the Cairnduff Shield by defeating Short’s in a keenly contested final. In the final competition Ards Rangers defeated Bryansburn to claim the Supplementary Shield.
The next season (2005/06) the Ards Borough Youth League increased to have 36 teams competing in Leagues at Under 11, Under 12 and Under 14.
The Ards Borough Youth League would like to thank all those who have helped in any way in making the Ards Borough Youth League the success it has been. Special thanks must go to our initial sponsors Composite Dynamics, Insport, Tarmac, Peter Rodgers, and Pritchitt’s Foods.
